A little bit about me :-)

As I am writing this, it has occurred to me that probably only three people will read it, my best friends and my lovely daughter, lol!

Three years ago, my world was turned upside down and inside out by three little words, “You have Multiple Sclerosis”. I thought I had a trapped nerve and I’d just gone for the results of an MRI to find out where it was. I didn’t ask for any life changing, nasty, frustrating, progressive, incurable disease, that’s for sure!  That’s how the neurologist told me. No warning, no tea and sympathy, just a crappy drawing of my brain and spine to show me where my lesions were, and an added by the way we need to do a lumber puncture to find out if it’s relapsing remitting or primary progressive. End of appointment.

I’d taken my daughter with me, and she was in the waiting room. We had planned to go shopping afterwards. The next couple of hours were a blur. We went shopping but more so that I could stop crying long enough to be able to drive us home. My family…how did I tell them? I was a coward and did it over the phone. They couldn’t take it in. They said it wasn’t definite. The lumber puncture would show it was all a big mistake. It would have been so much easier if they had been in the neurologists room with me. There were no ifs and buts. There was simply how bad was it.

That was hard work. I was trying to come to terms with it, googling, reading, learning everything possible about this nasty disease that had taken over my brain and my body. My family were all in supportive denial. All except my daughter. She knew. She knew me.
